Botanical Study Tour to Guangxi, South China, May 17-26, 2010

Botanical Study Tour to Guangxi, South China, May 17-26, 2010

Focus: The orchid national park Yachang, Northwest Guangxi, with some of the largest known Paphiopedilum populations in Asia and the world-famous Karst landscape of South China! We offer a 10-day short-trip with the opportunity to experience the nature and culture of southern China. The tour will take place when at least 10 persons have signed for it, the maximum number of participants is limited to 15. The tour price will cover all goods and services including airfares, other transport costs, accommodations, meals, entrance fees and tips. Because at the present state of planning we have no definite information on international flight connections, we cannot state a fixed price yet. Our botanical study tour through Yunnan and Sichuan in 2007 had cost 2500.- Euro (with an additional 350.- Euro if single room was required) and covered all expenses for 23 days. Because some fixed costs are not decreasing in the same way as the duration of a tour and because rising prices and exchange rate fluctuations might to be considered as well, a simple calculation by a ‘rule of three’ will not result in the costs for our new 10-days short trip, but the costs will be under 2000.- Euro.

That certain *is* a curious thing. I was also curious. I got an email from the AOS about this trip, yet it is all quoted in Euros? Why would something about spending Euros come from the American Orchid Society? If this is a trip planned by the RHS, it would be nice if the article said so.

I just received word that this trip is full for this year. It will likely be repeated in 2011.
