Default Paph. hsinying - species?

I have a Paph hsinying (majakun x citron) in my collection. Is hsinying an actual species, or is it just a cultivar? I'm having trouble finding any information on it.

I'm afraid you have an incorrectly documented tag on your paph hybrid. There is no registered cross of Paph. Hsinying.

"Hsinying" is commonly used by Ching Hua nursery in their names of hybrids. In fact, there are 206 registered paphiopoedilum crosses whose names start with it. I don't think this is a big mystery though, as two of their crosses are Hsinying Citron and Hsinying Majakun, and your tag should have read "Paphiopedilum (Hsinying Majakun x Hsinying Citron)"

Fortunately, you can simplify that, as they were crossed, with the hybrid registered as Paphiopedilum Hilo Green.

I see. So then is "Hsinying" a species or, what? Or if not, how should I go about identifying it? Hybrids make me crazy. I appreciate the help.

It sounds like you are asking a terminology question:

"Paphiopedilum" is the genus.

The word(s) that follow are either the species or hybrid name. In your case "Hilo Green" is the hybrid name.

Prior to being registered, you label should have identified the HYBRIDS used in the cross to be "Hsinyin Majakan x Hsingying Citron".

"Hsinying" by itself is meaningless; had you made and flowered the cross, you might as well have named it "Paph. Talkingseeds Green".

As an example, Paph Hsinying Majakun is a 6-generation cross (data from OrchidWiz) Note that naturally-occurring species names are lower-case, hybrid names upper-case:
