All three are very pretty. I think I like this one best.

I feel the same way Marci does.

The color pattern is the commonly expected one for the macrophylla ssp macrophylla. I prefer the dowiana to the macrophylla but I certainly like all of them.

Lycastes are one my favorites and many of them are blooming now with many others in the spring. They do tend to be large and require high light which makes them unsuitable for some hobbyists. If you have the proper space, try some.

Here are two more currently blooming:

They are all lovely and I would be tempted to try one except that I am space poor. May I observe that your photos, although beautiful, are extremely large and I am unable to see them in the entirety without having to roll down the screen. Perhaps it is just my monitor?

OK Marci I'll use a slightly smaller picture.

For your information the pics you are looking at are 1024 pixels wide and and approximately 685 pixels tall. They should fit on any display with XGA (1024) or better resolution.

XGA displays have been around since about 1990 so there are few of the lower resolution VGA's left. Most modern displays are far better than 1024. The notebook I'm using right now is 1440 x 900 for example.

Is it possible that you have your display resolution set very low in order to get a larger font size on print? If so you might consider raising the resolution to at least 1024 x 768. If you are on a Windows machine look in Control Panel or on a Mac in Settings to find display resolution adjustments.

I'm going to put a smaller image (640 x 428) here for you to test. Let me know how this works for you and approximately how much of your screen area it takes up....like 25%, 50%, 100%...just guess.

Thanks, KY - The new size of your gorgeous LYC (drool!) takes up approx 2/3 of the width of my screen and even on a foggy day I can see it clearly. LOL My display resolution is 1280 x 768. The larger photos fit the width of my screen perfectly but are a bit over and under the height. I roll up or down to see the entire photo. No big deal and please don't resize your photos on my account. They are really gorgeous.

Unfortunately, here in south Florida without the capability to cool down in summer, we can only grow a few lycastes - usually the small yellow ones. I find them very attractive and if we ever get out of south FL, plan to grow masdevallias and lycastes!

Kathy, the Lycastes and Masdevallia are easiler here where it has not been above freezing in a week and now it's about to get reeeealy cold with potential ice. The cost of heating the GH can sometimes gag a mule. In the current conditions it's about $30 a day.

Marci, one other suggestion...the small pic I posted should only take up about half your screen width at the resolution you reported. The pic is 640 wide and you say the resolution is 1280. Are you sure that you are actually operating at the 1280 resolution. In Firefox and Safari you can "Zoom" or "Zoom Text Only". I'm not sure about IE since I haven't used it in years. If this last pic is using 2/3 of the width, there is something funny about your resolution.

I'm not trying to tell you what screen resolution to use, just suggesting it might not be what you think it is. Even the larger pics should fit on your screen.
