A question about MS word

Greetings -
I hope someone on this forum can help me with this: I do our society's newsletter, as well as minutes and notes from our meetings and shows. Most of the original text is written using 'ms word'.
My problem, which I am sure others have encountered: when listing the name of a species orchid, usually the genus is abbreviated; by default, 'word' then capitalizes the species name. Anything after a period gets a capital letter.
So, instead of C. bowringiana, I get C. Bowringiana.
Does anybody have a nice, persistent 'fix' for this? I have been doing it manually, but some still sneak through. And it is frustrating!

In Word 2007, you might try the following:

1) Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Word Options at the bottom of the window.
2) Click Proofing.
3) Click the AutoCorrect Options button.
4) Clear the checkbox for Capitalize first letter of sentences.

I don't recall where the autocorrect options are in older versions, but I guess I'd start with the tools menu item.
