Wireless Temperature Alarm

This is the wireless temperature alarm that I use...the air temp/humidity monitor #6278...

I orginially bought mine from RadioShack, but I don't see them offering it anymore. The #6278 Air Temp/Humidity monitor has a range of 300 feet. I've had mine for about ten years and it still works flawlessly. My greenhouse is 250 feet from the house and I keep the receiver next to my bedside. It has a Minimum/Maximum memory file and Min/Max alarms that you can set for both the air temp and humidity. Transmitter is weatherproof. Both the transmitter and receiver use 2 AA batteries which last well over one year. Hard to beat all that for under $90.

Hi Ed,
Just read with considerable interest your notes on wireless temperature monitoring. I went to the waterwareehouse site and I am assuming you are using 6278 air temp/humidity monitor with the 6277 Thermometer Transmitter. Is that correct or is there another way to go? I presently have a Sensaphone and just recently had to replace the temp. monitor and am looking for a cheaper way to go than Sensaphone if I have trouble again.

Andy, I have an inquiry in to the company regarding the availability of a kit including the air temperature/humidity transmitter and the receiver base. At this time their website only offers the water temperature transmitter and the receiver base. I'll let you know what I find out. You could probably use the water temperature transmitter/receiver kit if you're not concerned about monitoring the humidity.

Andy, you might - depending upon the distance from the greenhouse to the Sensaphone in your home - look for a wireless doorbell/chime at Lowes or Home Depot.

The "doorbell button" can be modified to rely on your temperature sensor to close the circuit and signal the chime, and the chime receiver circuit can be connected to the Sensaphone contacts to trigger it.

I recently built an RF unit to attach to my Sensaphone, and it has about 1000 foot range, but at $250, it might be more than you're looking for.

This is a thank you for both of you. Really appreciate your input. Has been snowing off and on all day and temps are supposed to drop into the low 20s tonight. Cross your fingers and say a little prayer. I think global warming might help me sleep better.

Is anyone aware of a simple temperature monitor that communicates via a Wi-Fi network? There are dozens of wired ones, and I can hook one to a wireless client bridge, but the combination is pretty unwieldy.
