Hi
I am new here, need information about orchids on many fronts.
I have alway "been afraid" of them- like everyone says- I thought I couldn't raise them.
Now I think I am in information overload!
I have cleared out my sunroom to make it over, with orchids. this is a type of conservatory room, windows on 3 sides, faces south-west, and had mini-blinds over windows so that I can control the amount of sun.
It would get uncomfortable warm in summer, otherwise. It has H/AC, so it is basically climate controlled.
I have a steam humidifier that works well, and raises humidity enough to fog the windows, in winter, unless I open a door to house.
now, what I am wanting are SCENTED orchids.
night-scented is my favorite! but any time is nice!
I have some spaces available near windows for hanging types, 2 corner tiers for sorta sideways growers and some drooping one, and a window rack for 9 miniatures.
Suggestions???
Also, what is the general thought about hydroculture? I don't want to leap headlong into it if it's not a good idea.
I am really grateful for any help anyone can give me, this is part of a major lifechange for me.
I am not able to keep my beloved sheep anymore; my mother recently died, and this has been a wonderful distraction and hopeful future lifelong interest.
Thank you
AmyRuth
