Epiphyte, you live in Southern California. Some of us are familiar with Santa Barbara and San Francisco and Los Angeles and we are familiar with what can be grown outdoors with little to no care in your relatively small area. And yet, just a few miles from you is a blast furnace environment where nobody should be trying to grow tropical orchids outdoors. It sounds like you want the AOS to write a special paragraph just for your neighborhood, when in reality, the AOS, on that single website page you reference, has one paragraph to say something to all its members whether they live in LA or Alaska or Hawaii or Norway.
There is a big difference between being brief and what you call "misleading" and "lousy". I would urge you to tone down your criticism and take into account the tens of thousands of AOS Members and website visitors who don't live in your neighborhood and who do not choose to put their orchids to the outdoor test in questionable areas. I think it would be great to continue this conversation without resorting to accusations and defamations.

Ed, you are not out of line. We should all try to be civil and constructive in our conversations. I think that the thread is a good discussion but as you pointed out the tone needs to be reigned in. We are all keepers of the culture. If you see something that is questionable you can press the "Alert" icon in the top right of the post. That will alert me (and in the future mods).
